Virat Kohli has been enduring a prolonged poor patch in Test cricket, which became more evident on the tour of Australia. In nine innings, he scored 190 runs at an average of 23.75, including two fifties.
Kohli opted to practice with former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar at a facility developed by Bangar to overcome his problems. The main focus was on tackling deliveries off the back foot, and Sanjay gave him passes from 16 yards to help him play rising balls.
A portable cement slab with wheels was installed at the back of the longitudinal area, which helped the ball rise abruptly after landing. It would help him open up his backstrokes, something that has been lacking in Kohli’s game of late.

He doesn’t play too many cut shots and steps up for deliveries that should be played off the back foot, which means he takes too many balls outside the line of stump. If Kohli plays more balls off the back foot and gets closer to the wicket, those problems will reduce, opening up more run-scoring opportunities.
Virat Kohli to feature in Delhi’s final Ranji Trophy match against Railways
The BCCI has made it mandatory for all centrally contracted players to participate in the Ranji Trophy whenever it is available, and numerous international stars played for their national team in the last round. However, Virat Kohli missed the action due to a sprained neck but will be fit before the next match.
Kohli will play for Delhi against Railways in the final league match in Delhi, which will be his first appearance in the competition since 2012. His last Ranji Trophy match was against Uttar Pradesh, where he recorded scores of 14 and 43 in two innings.
After this game, Kohli’s focus will shift to the 50-over format, for India to play England in a three-match ODI series. This rubber will serve as a dress rehearsal for the Champions Trophy.
India’s next Test will be against England in the middle of the year, so Virat and other senior players playing in red-ball games seem unnecessary. Virat Kohli will be hoping to get some runs and gain confidence ahead of the crucial international series after a dismal tour of Australia.
