It finally happened. After 18 years of waiting, heartbreak, almost false and implacable beliefs, Royal Bangalore (RCB) challenges have raised their first IPL trophy, defeating the kings of Punjab in an exciting end of IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad.
At the time the final wickt fell, the Narendra Modi stadium exploded, but no one stronger than Virat Kohli, who fell on his knees, arms raised, eyes full of emotion. For someone who has given almost two decades of his career to a franchise, it was the final launch. Kohli then hugged each teammate, let out a roar and soaked at the time he had eluded him for so long.
In the talk after the game with Matthew Hayden, Kohli summarized it with a heart. “18 long years have passed. I have given this team my youth, cousin and experience. I tried to win it every season, I gave him everything I have. Finally having it is an incredible feeling.”
RCB celebrations began in the field with a return of honor, with Kohli leading the road, stirring the RCB flag in front of thousands of singing fans. The fireworks lit the sky of Ahmedabad while the players gathered on the podium to lift the trophy.
Kohli set out to dedicate the victory to AB de Villiers, the RCB icon for a long time. “I said: ‘This victory is both yours and ours. You deserve to be on the podium raising this cup'”.
The RCB path to the title was not easy. They defended 190 in the final thanks to excellent spells by Krunal Pandya, Josh Hazlewood and Romario Shepherd, after key contributions with Kohli’s bat and Jitesh Sharma.

This was not just a trophy: it was the end of a meme, the answer to each “EE Sala Cup Namde” joke. For once, the song sounded true.
As Kohli said: “My heart is with Bangalore, my soul is with Bangalore … This is the team for which I am going to play until the last day that I play the IPL. Tonight, I go to sleep like a baby.”
