Why do Champions trophy winners wear white jackets?

Tradition began in 2009.

The event has returned after eight years after Pakistan won in 2017.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) began organizing the Champions Trophy in 1998 in Bangladesh. But, it is a relatively recent tradition to use white jackets after winning the tournament, starting with the 2009 edition in South Africa.

The white jacket was conceptualized by the fashion designer Babita Munveiled. She incorporated rich mixes of Italian wool, combining texture and stripes. These jackets have gold braids with the Champions Trophy logo embroidered on the fabric along with a gold contour.

Wasim Akram announced the ceremonial demand on August 13, ahead of the 2009 Champions Trophy. In the CPI promotional video, Pakistan’s legendary pacer said that the vests mean the relentless search for tactical brilliance along with a legacy that inspires generations.

“The ICC Men Champions Trophy represents the best of the best and the presentation of the white jacket, which symbolizes greatness, will now build the emotion of the event throughout the global Cricket community,” Akram said.

Previously, New Zealand had defeated India twice in the CPI events finals to win the championship. The Kiwis beat India to win the Champions 2000 trophy, which was named as the CPI knockout cup at that time. The BlackCaps also won their second ICC title after defeating India in the World Testing Championship final (WTC) in 2021.

In particular, India assured the consecutive triumphs of the Consecutive ICC tournament for the first time in history after his victory in the World Cup T20 in Barbados last year. After sharing the Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002, India finally got the elusive trophy in 2013 by defeating England in Birmingham. They were close to winning the Champions Trophy consecutively, but they fell short against Pakistan in 2017.

With the last trophy in the National Cabinet, India has become the first time to win three Champions Trophy titles.
