Dieth Rathi took out his popular ‘celebration of the notebook’ once again after saying goodbye to Ryan Rickelton during the Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2025 shock, but this time, he will not face anything fine, thanks to a new BCCI directive.
In the 46th IPL 2025 match at the Wankhede stadium, the young Spinner of the Lucknow Super Giants, Digvech Rathi, dismissed the Abrta of the Indians of Mumbai, Ryan Rickelton, and immediately brought his famous celebration of the notebook, pretending to score a wickt in an imaginary notebook. It was a moment that energized the crowd and added an additional layer of entertainment to the game.
Why will you not be further about the celebration of the notebook after the dismissal of Ryan Rickelton?
At the beginning of the season, however, similar celebrations of Rathi had put him in trouble. The Spinner was fined twice by the IPL authorities so the officials considered “excessive celebrations” under the code of conduct. The sanctions caused an important reaction in social networks, with many fans and experts arguing that young players like Rathi should be encouraged to bring energy and fun to the tournament, not punished.
The controversy grew so great that the BCCI had to intervene. According to a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI instructed the IPL referees during their weekly meeting in April 2025 to be more indulgent with the players’ celebrations. The report declared: “The referees have also been asked to be a little more indulgent in the player’s celebration after the belief they received to penalize fetchesh rat for Lucknow Super Giants this season for their ‘notebook’.”

Bcci’s new request changes everything
Thanks to the new BCCI guidelines, the celebration of the Rathi notebook against the Mumbai Indians did not attract any sanction. The decision of the governing agency gives players more freedom to express themselves in the field, provided that the celebrations remain not abusive and in the spirit of the game.
