GT’s captain, Shubman Gill, lost his calm not once, but twice during the 2025 crash of Gujarat Titans against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 2.
The generally quiet Shubman Gill was seen arguing with the referees in the field and third during two separate incidents that have now raised questions about possible disciplinary actions of the IPL.
Shubman Gill involved in the exchanged exchange with excess referee
The first inflammation point came during the 13 of the GT inputs. Gill, who was in good shape with 76 races of 38 balls, was involved in a controversial exhaustion at the end of the non -front. Jos Buttler pushed a installment of Zeeshan Ansari and asked for a fast single. Harshal Patel shot in a launch that Heinrich Klaasen collected in the stumps.
The third referee judged Gill after reviewing the images, but the repetitions showed that the bonds may have been evicted before Klaasen had total control of the ball in his gloves. Gill was clearly disgusted with the ruling and, after returning to the bench, was seen committed to an animated discussion with the fourth referee near the boundary strings.
The second flash point: Gill argument with referee in the field
The second incident occurred only one later, during the 14 of SRH entries. Abhishek Sharma was beaten in the foot by Prasideh Krishna and required physio treatment. At this point, Gill approached the referee in the Virender Sharma field and seemed to express his frustration for something not related to the rest of the injury.
Although the referee tried to explain the situation to Gill, GT’s captain remained visibly annoying and continued the discussion. It was only after Abhishek Sharma, an old friend of Gill, intervened and asked him to calm down that the matter was disabled.
What does the IPL Code of conduct say?
According to article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct of the IPL, any excessive sample of disappointment or argument with the referee for a decision can be considered a crime of level 1. The rule includes behaviors such as:
Discussing or entering a prolonged discussion with the referee delaying the game after a dismissal of excessive or visible signs of dissent
The code clearly establishes:
“It will not be a defense at any position presented under this article to demonstrate that the referee could, or in fact, have made a bad decision.”
“Article 2.8 includes: (a) excessive and obvious disappointment with the decision of a referee; (b) an obvious delay in the resumption of the game or leave the wickt; (c) shaking the head; (d) pointing or looking at the inner edge when it is given lbw; (e) pointing to the alpo the context of a legitimate request of a reference as it can allow in such a coincidence);

What could be the consequences?
Since both incidents involved visible and prolonged discussions with party officials, Gill could be accused of a crime of level 1 under the code of conduct. The usual penalty for such an offense is a fine of 25% of the party rate. In rare cases, if the behavior is considered more serious or repeated, the referee could intensify the matter.
From now on, the IPL has officially announced any action, but a statement after the game or during the weekend to review disciplinary incidents could be expected.
