The Mumbai Indians have gathered a strong side for IPL 2025, but will face some question signs with respect to their initial XI.
The five times ex -Indians of Mumbai champions have had the worst four -year stretch in their history of the Indian Premier League. After winning the title in 2020, they have reached the playoffs only once and have ended at the bottom of the League twice.
The previous season was an adequate disaster for them, with internal conflicts and low performance in the field. However, the new season brings a new hope and the Mumbai Indians will seek not to repeat the same mistakes.
The franchise my retained Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Rohit Sharma before the mega auction. Then they added some quality players to their list, including Mitch Santner, Trent Boult, Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton. Allah Ghazanfar had also acquired, but has been discarded from the season. My has brought women as a replacement.
Before the IPL 2025, we take a look at three key decisions that Mumbai’s Indians will have to take the best of their resources.
Who opens with Rohit Sharma in IPL 2025?
During the last four seasons, the Mumbai Indians had a stable opening couple in Rohit Sharma and Isehan Kishan. Sharma will have a new opening association for IPL 2025, with Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks is the two options. Ideally, both could open together, but my moving Rohit in order seems unlikely.
Jacks is one of the most destructive batters in the world. His general T20 strike rate says 156. He played eight games for RCB last year and made 230 races at 175 attack rate, including a century. But Jacks could not reach the brand of 15 races in five games.
Rickelton, on the other hand, has shown great consistency. It has accumulated 866 races in the last two SA20 seasons to an average of 54 and a strike rate of 175.7. Rickelton also resolves the groove for Wicktkeeper and gives them a left right -wing combination at the top.

Fourth hardening abroad in the Indians of Mumbai XI
Looking at the options abroad, Trent Boult, Ryan Rickelton and Mitch Santner should be certainty in the Mumbai Indians who begin XI. The fourth place could depend on other factors, such as conditions and opponents.
For household conditions in the Wankhede, having two spinners abroad does not give much value. The Jacks would be a great option to have on the side on a good batting surface and can be flexible.
For games outside of Chepauk and Lucknow, where the spinners get good help, Mumbai’s Indians can play Santner and Mujer. Playing women would also be a good strategic movement against the heavy sides of the left.
The lack of quality turn options has been a problem for Mumbai Indians over the years. They seem to be committed to changing that equation.

What happens if Jasprit Bumrah is lost?
Jasprit Bumrah is the most valuable player on the side of the Mumbai Indians and makes them one of the main contestants to win the title. But without him, his bowling attack would not be the same. Bumrah was discarded from the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a back injury and there is a good possibility that it is not completely fit for the first half of the IPL 2025.
If Bumrah loses some games in the season, the Mumbai Indians will have to restructure their alignment. In addition to Bumrah, his other rhythm options are Bault, Deepak Chahar, Arjun Tendulkar, Reece Topley, Lizaad Williams. Of them, Bault and Chahaha would be certain headlines. Williams has not yet recovered from an injury and his participation is in doubt.
In the absence of Bumrah, I could have to play two pacemaker abroad, sacrificing a batting slot abroad or a turn option. The way in which they adapt in this situation will be critical for their hope hopes of IPL 2025.
