Of the total 577, 367 are Indian players, while the remaining 210 are abroad. The 10 teams have a maximum of 204 places to fill, of which 70 are for foreign players.
In this article, let’s take a look at the three new players and what they will bring to the table.
Jofra Archer (Set 6)
The English speedster was named MVP in the last full IPL season he played, taking 20 wickets for Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 edition held in the United Arab Emirates. While he skipped the previous 2024 season due to injury and workload management, his entry into the auction now will definitely make him a hot commodity.
Overall, Archer has taken 46 wickets in 35 IPL appearances, bowling with an impressive economy of 7.13. Notably, the auction will start with two marquee sets, while Archer will be in set 6, which is for fast bowlers.
Saurabh Netrawalkar (Establishment 79)
Netravalkar caught the eye earlier this year during an impressive 2024 T20 World Cup campaign for the United States. He later excelled in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 15 dismissals.
For the unversed, Netravalkar also had a brief stint in Indian domestic cricket. He made his mark by representing India Under 19, becoming the highest wicket-taker in their 2010 Under 19 World Cup campaign. Players like Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul, Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat and Sandeep Sharma, who also formed Part of the 2010 Under 19 World Cup team, they represented India at a higher level.
A left-arm bowler known for his precise action and ability to swing the ball both ways, Netravalkar’s key strengths lie in his consistent line and length – a talent that franchises will be on the lookout for at the event in Jeddah.
