The Delhi Capitals (DC) were among the worst performing teams in the previous cycle and failed to qualify for the playoffs in any of the three seasons. They made some bold decisions on the retention deadline, and Rishabh Pant’s release was the biggest among them.

Therefore, during the auction they will look at some big names who can be trusted with the bat and take the franchise forward. They will want a leader for the next cycle, since the retained ones are unlikely to take on such a large responsibility.

Shreyas Iyer

Delhi Capitals may want Shreyas Iyer more than any other team in the IPL 2025 auction. He is a spin batsman who can be flexible with his batting position and bat at number 3 or 4 as required.

More importantly, DC wants a captain with proven credentials. Iyer previously led the same franchise to the final in IPL 2020 and won the title with Kolkata Knight Riders last season.

David Miller

Launching Rishabh Pant means DC needs a batsman who can bat in the middle order. David Miller is ideal for this role as he is among the most powerful batsmen against pace and can bat from number 4 to 6.

Miller is an LHB, which will bring variety to the batting unit. He will use his vast experience to thrive on the covers of Delhi.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada has a lot to offer in T20 cricket if used accurately. Dropping all pacers will tempt DC to look for a solid speedster who can be used in at least two phases, and Rabada checks that box.

He can swing the new ball to bring wickets to the powerplay and hit the pad hard to be a performer in the middle overs. He previously worked with the franchise and will know the conditions in Delhi.
