PBKS was also on the losing end of several bids during the auction and had to let them go.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) participated in the IPL 2025 auction with the largest purse of Rs 110.50 crore and went for most of the players. They spent wholeheartedly on several players and put together a decent squad.
However, they were also on the losing end of several bids during the auction and had to let them go. Some of them were quality players who could have made a big difference but ended up in a different franchise.
We look at three players for whom PBKS unsuccessfully bid in the IPL 2025 auction.
Devon Conway
Punjab Kings were clear with their strategy and chased Devon Conway during the IPL 2025 auction. They were involved in a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but CSK finally got him for INR 6.25 crore.
They missed the opportunity to have a solid starter who is adept at spin and can hit at different speeds. However, CSK got it back and PBKS had to withdraw.

Will Jacks was another quality player on PBKS’ radar, but was unable to land him due to his high price tag. The bidding battle began between Mumbai Indians (MI) and PBKS, where the former initiated the process and went up to INR 5.25 crore.
Later, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) decided not to use their RTM and MI got him at a reasonable price. Perhaps PBKS could have pushed harder for him, given their large budget, but they missed out on another quality player.
Ishan Kishan
As many as four teams (Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)) wanted Ishan Kishan during the IPL 2025 auction. PBKS was in the race until a bid of Rs 11 crore was made and it seemed I would definitely buy Kishan.
However, when SRH raised their paddle for the next round at INR 11.25 crore, Punjab Kings again folded and decided not to continue. They would have landed a solid Indian batsman but again failed to sign a quality player, this time due to an exorbitant price.
