An MI star has also been given captaincy duties for the team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), today announced the squad for the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Team Asia Cup 2024. Interestingly, the list includes four Mumbai Indians (MI) players: Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, Hrithik Shokeen and Anshul Kamboj.
Notably, Mumbai Indians star Tilak Varma has also been named captain of the young Indian team, while talented left-handed batsman Abhishek Sharma will act as his deputy.
While Tilak and Abhishek have some international exposure, the rest of the team can count on their IPL experience.
Ayush Badoni (LSG), Ramandeep Singh (KKR), Prabhsimran Singh (PBKS), Nehal Wadhera (MI) and Anuj Rawat (RCB) make up a formidable batting lineup. On the bowling side, the group features R Sai Kishore (GT), Hrithik Shokeen, Rasikh Salam (DC), Vaibhav Arora (KKR) and Aaqib Khan.

The team also includes all-rounders Nishant Sindhu, a member of India’s victorious team at the 2022 U-19 World Cup, and Anshul Kamboj, who impressed during the recent four-day Duleep Trophy matches.
India will begin their campaign on October 19 against Pakistan A. Oman and the United Arab Emirates are the other teams in their group.
For the first time, the tournament will be played in T20 format, unlike the previous five editions, which were played in 50+ format. India was victorious in the inaugural edition in 2013, while Pakistan clinched the championship in the last two tournaments. In 2023, Pakistan successfully defended their title by defeating India in the final.
