He gave a fitting response to the snub by displaying his prowess with six hits.
Former New Zealand and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Daryl Mitchell put on a display of his batting fireworks during the recent NZ vs SL 3rd T20I. Notably, Mitchell, who was part of the CSK team until last season, surprisingly went unsold in last month’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction.
Now, the Kiwi has given a befitting response to the snub by hitting four sixes in one. Mitchell’s massacre came in New Zealand’s 15th innings when he took Charith Asalanka to the cleaners and entertained the crowd with his six-hitting prowess.
Mitchell finally scored 35 off just 17 balls. Apart from the four sixes, he hit a four, batting at an impressive rate of over 225.

Daryl Mitchell responded to IPL snub with significant contributions in Sri Lanka T20I series
The explosive New Zealand batsman enjoyed a sublime run with the bat in the recent short format series against the Islanders. Mitchell started on a strong note, scoring 62 runs off 42 balls in the series opener. He showed his mettle and temperament as he did some mending work to help the Kiwis go from 65/5 to 172/8 at one point.
In the second T20I, Mitchell managed 18 runs off 15 balls with NZ’s score of 186/5. Unfortunately, he was left without a team in that match, but New Zealand won the contest to close the series 2-0.
In today’s final game, Mitchell was once again clinical with the bat, scoring a brilliant 35 although it came in a losing cause. He lost his wicket to a fuller delivery from Nuwan Untilhara while trying to cross and his attempted loft resulted in a catch.
However, his ferocious batting will definitely make IPL teams regret it now after Daryl found no takers in the auction.
