Adam Zampa joins club of Australia’s top 8 ODI wicket-takers in major achievement

Australia National Cricket Team player Adam Zampa achieved a great feat for the team in ODI cricket. The player surpassed former pacer Nathan Bracken to become the team’s eighth highest wicket-taker in the history of ODI cricket.

Australian player Adam Zampa achieved the milestone during the fourth ODI of the five-match series against the England national cricket team. The match between the two teams took place on Friday (September 27) at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Although Australia lost the match, Adam Zampa was the shining light for the team in the match. He was a little expensive with the ball, but he managed to pick important windows for his team. Leg-spin removed England captain Harry Brook and Ben Duckett, who looked threatening at the crease and hit half-centuries.

Adam Zampa, with his two wickets in the game, completed 175 wickets in the ODI and is now ranked eighth in the list of leading wicket-takers for Australia. The player has obtained an average of 27.99, with the best figures of 5/35. He also has 11 four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul in ODIs.

Adam Zampa surpassed Nathan Bracken, who picked 174 wickets in 116 ODIs at an average of 24.36, with best figures of 5/47. He also took five 4-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls in ODIs. Bowling greats Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee (380 wickets each) are the team’s highest ODI wicket-takers.

Zampa, since debuting with the team in 2016, has been the backbone of the Australian bowling line-up. He has become a genuine wicket-taker for the team and has many times brought the team back into the game with his exceptional skills in the middle overs.

Adam Zampa fails to win the game for his team

Adam Zampa could not help his team win the fourth ODI against England. The hosts dominated with bat and ball and made sure to level the series at 2-2. The Harry Brook-led team, thanks to half-centuries from the captain (87), Ben Duckett (63) and Liam Livingstone (62*), posted a mammoth total of 312/5 in their 39 overs.

In the chase, Travis Head (34) and Mitchell Marsh (28) gave the team a great start, adding 68 runs for the opening partnership. But after that, nothing went right as Matthew Potts (4/38) and Brydon Carse (3/36) wreaked havoc on the opposition and bowled them out for 126 to win the game by a huge margin of 186 runs.

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh spoke openly about the defeat and admitted they were outplayed by England. He also applauded the opposition bowlers. He said:

“Fair play against England, they put us under a lot of pressure. They completely outplayed us. Probably a little over par, Liam Livingstone played a gem of an innings. In a chase like that, you need one or two great partnerships. England played well , we continually lost ground.

“That’s cricket. It’s going to be a great experience (final ODI), obviously we would have liked to finish the series in the last two games. England have come back very strongly, we are going to Bristol, excited for the opportunity.”
