Melbourne Renegades Women secured the 2024 WBBL title with a dramatic 7-run (DLS) win over Brisbane Heat Women at the MCG in Melbourne.

The Renegades scored 141/9 in the final, powered by Hayley Matthews’ brilliant 69 off 61 balls. Rain interrupted the match, reducing the Brisbane Heat’s target to 98 runs in 12 overs.

Despite a spirited chase, Brisbane Heat Women fell short by 7 runs, with Jess Jonassen’s valiant effort of 44 off 28 balls. His innings kept Brisbane in contention, but the Renegades eventually pulled off a memorable win. Hayley Matthews, who also took two wickets, was named Player of the Match for her exceptional all-round performance.

Sophie Molineux: a champion for both the renegades and the RCB women

Sophie Molineux, the captain, although she had no impact in the final, was crucial to the Renegades’ successful campaign. He scored 140 runs in seven matches, including a top score of 64, and excelled with the ball, claiming 16 wickets with best figures of 4/17. His integral contributions were instrumental in the team’s path to the championship.

Earlier this year, Molineux also played an important role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s women’s championship winning streak. In 10 matches, she claimed 12 wickets, with best figures of 3/20, finishing as the third highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

Additionally, he contributed 78 runs with the bat. Her performances, especially with the ball, were instrumental in the success of RCB Women.

Molineux’s consistent impact across all tournaments has established her as a key player in shaping title-winning campaigns for both Renegades and RCB Women, underlining her value as a reliable player on the biggest stages.
