Rohit averages just 23.44 and has been dismissed nine times in 17 outings against right-arm pacers in India in 2024.
Anil Kumble identified flaws in Rohit Sharma’s batting technique, pointing out a pattern in his dismissals against right-arm pacers. At Jio Cinema, he highlighted how he is framing, thinking the ball is coming towards him, but straightening up from the platform or moving away slightly.
“These kinds of dismissals, if we go back to the Bangladesh Test match when the ball kept slipping away from that angle, constantly worries Rohit Sharma. Tim Southee took advantage of that. And today Matt Henry is exploited in the same way. “It opens up that right shoulder, which certainly makes it vulnerable.”
“And if you look at the seam, it just holds its line. He seemed to move away from the right-hander. There’s not much swing here. The ball just hits the ground, stays on the line and he opens up thinking the ball will go back in. So, that is a technical concern that needs to be addressed because you have a five-Test series against Australia and he is a very important player. Indian player, especially at the top of the order.”
Rohit averages just 23.44 and has been dismissed nine times in 17 outings against right-arm pacers in India in 2024. While he has some good balls at the top, the Indian captain has shown recklessness early in the innings, which led to his dismissals.
Rohit Sharma’s form a big concern ahead of Australia tour
Rohit Sharma has gone through a rough patch in this home Test season, starting with the Bangladesh series in September. He has scored just 122 runs at a mediocre average of 13.55 in nine innings, with just one fifty.
Since the Bangladesh series, he has made six single-digit scores, including a duck, in nine outings. His form will surely worry the team management ahead of the tour of Australia.

More importantly, Rohit has shown a pattern in his dismissals, and quick Australians will exploit him in faster decks. He has been committed to the front foot from the start and is looking to access the lateral region of the leg, which has challenged him several times.
His struggles against incoming deliveries will make him prone to Mitchell Starc, and if he shows another gap, the tour of Australia will be tough. Just one more innings and Rohit’s next outing will be in Perth, where such failures will exacerbate matters for him.
