England batsman Joe Root has delivered his verdict on the controversial dismissal of teammate Jonny Bairstow during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London. He said that he will always remember Alex Carey for that rambling.
Jonny Bairstow was strangely taken aback during the second innings of the recently concluded second Test of Ashes. His wicket sparked the spirit of cricket debate among English fans and pundits criticized the Australian team for what they did.

Alex Carey was the main casualty as he affected the run after seeing Jonny Bairstow leave the box just after the ball he launched. The keeper’s batsman hit the forehand and the England batsman was nowhere near the crease. The umpires called him out and he was furious.

But English cricketers and pundits criticized the Australian team for failing to uphold the spirit of the game and said they should have withdrawn the appeal. Even skipper Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum weighed in, saying that if they had been in their position they would have taken a different route.

Joe Root admitted he tried to put himself in Australia’s shoes and said he would have dealt with it differently. Speaking of the same, he said:
“As a player, it’s all about how you want to play, how you want to be remembered. And that depends on each individual. As a team we want to play our cricket a certain way and we want to leave a certain legacy. I try to put myself in that situation and position and I would like to think that I would have handled it differently.”

Joe Root also noted that Jonny Bairstow didn’t gain any advantage by leaving the crease. He elaborated:
“If you look at the footage, Jonny didn’t get any advantage from doing what he was doing (when he was hitting). As a hitter, you are fully aware when you are hitting out of your crease that you are gaining an advantage.
Whether it’s covering different angles or trying to get firemodes out of the game. (That’s different than) scratching a mark at the end and walking to the other end.”
Joe Root also urged fans to support the home side and called for calm at Headingley after a verbal spat between England fans and Australia players in the lobby of Lord’s Cricket Ground.
England are currently 2-0 down in the series and will be hoping to turn around to come back. The third Test match will be played Thursday (July 6).
