Former captains Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara have been vocal about England pacemaker Ollie Robinson’s sending off Usman Khawaja after picking his wicket. It was a well planned wicket by Robinson and his skipper Ben Stokes.
Stokes had positioned four fielders right in front of Khawaja and Robinson delivered a full-pitch yorker that hit the stumps going under the bat of Usman Khawaja. The bowler then used some unparliamentary words as Khawaja was on his way back to the pavilion.
Robinson’s antics elicited various reactions from former cricketers and captains. Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara came up with their own versions of the same thing.

“I was sitting there eating pizza, watching golf, and my phone lit up! he was a little surprised [he mentioned me]! Just because it was so long ago, if I had used one of the current players as an example, that would be fine, but I haven’t played in 11 years and probably haven’t shot an Englishman in 15! Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara said this is the ashes and that verbal duels like these are common. It even predicts long-term headbutts if players continue to be angry like this.
“I think a lot has changed over the years in terms of how the sled is perceived, what is offensive or not. Words are spoken in the heat of the moment. They are the ashes at the end of the day, there will be verbal and headbutts “ Said Sangakkara.
