Nathan Lyon didn’t look comfortable in the middle. However, he hit a cap from Stuart Broad and added a crucial 15 runs with Mitchell Starc before being cleaned out by the veteran pacer. There was an enthusiastic reception for Lyon when he entered the long room after being fired. Helped by strong performances from the batsmen and a valiant effort from Lyon, Australia recorded a target of 371 runs for England.
Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon’s involvement in the rest of the series is in doubt and he will most likely be replaced by young spinner Todd Murphy in the next game.
Lyon’s absence will certainly be a huge blow to the Australians’ Ashes hopes, as he has been delivering winning performances for the team for a very long period of time.
