Defending champions Perth Scorchers face a major setback as captain Ashton Turner has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023-24 Big Bash League (BBL). The Scorchers confirmed that Ashton Turner will be absent for the remainder of the league due to a knee injury.

Ashton Turner suffered a right leg injury during the game against the Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday. The all-rounder limped off the field after throwing his first ball. He left the field clutching his knee, creating uncertainty about his return to the field.

He underwent surgery on his right knee after scans revealed a “meniscus tear”. Notably, he had to deal with the same injury in the opening phase of the domestic season, causing him to miss two Sheffield Shield matches and one Marsh One-Day Cup match before the BBL.

Ashton Turner’s return to be determined in due course – Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers stated that Ashton Turner had been dealing with the injury for an extended period. The statement conveyed that the exact timeline for Turner’s return will be determined in due course.

“The incident caused him to leave the field and no longer participate in the match, and subsequent scans revealed that he required surgery. “The exact timeline for Turner’s return will be determined in due course,” the statement added.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured the batsman for his base price of Rs 1 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. The franchise would be concerned about the player’s physical condition. However, Turner will face a tough challenge from foreign players to make the playing XI.

Many people are willing to help – Aaron Hardie

The Perth Scorchers are in the process of naming replacements for the captaincy and plan to announce their next match. All-rounder Aaron Hardie and vice-captain Josh Inglis are among those vying for the Scorchers captaincy.
