The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed his satisfaction after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) accepted his proposed model for the upcoming Asian Cup 2023. He said he is elated with the development and they would be happier if the Indian team would have come to Pakistan but understands the position of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) revealed on Thursday (June 15) the dates for the 2023 Asia Cup. The tournament will be played from August 31 to September 17 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. There were quite a few issues related to the venue of the tournament as BCCI was unwilling to send India to Pakistan for security reasons.

This led to quite a few discussions between BCCI and PCB about the venue of the tournament. Ultimately, it led the Pakistan Cricket Board to propose a hybrid model, which suggested that the tournament will be played in Pakistan in addition to the Indian games, which will be held at a neutral venue.

After much discussion, the board came to a conclusion and, together with the ACC, finalized the venues and dates for the tournament. Out of the 13 games, 4 games will be held in Pakistan while 9 games will be played in Sri Lanka.

PCB Chairman Najam Sethi was elated with the development and also said that he understands BCCI’s position on why they failed to send the Indian team to Pakistan. Speaking in an official statement, he said:

“I am elated that our hybrid version for the 2023 ACC Asia Cup has been accepted. This means that the PCB will continue to host the event and host the matches in Pakistan with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue, which was required due to the Indian cricket team’s inability to travel to Pakistan.

“Our passionate fans would have loved to see the Indian cricket team in action in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years, but we understand the BCCI position. Like the PCB, the BCCI also requires government approval and clearance before crossing borders.”

Asian Cup 2023: “I appreciate the efforts of ACC Chairman Jay Shah to strengthen the council,” says Najam Sethi.

Najam Sethi further praised ACC Chairman Jay Shah for his efforts, conceding that in the current situation, the hybrid model was the best option. He elaborated:

“I appreciate ACC Chairman Jay Shah’s efforts to strengthen the council so that we can continue to collectively protect each other’s interests and also provide opportunities and platforms for emerging Asian nations.”

“In this context, the hybrid model was the best solution and that is precisely why I advocated it so strongly. Acceptance of the hybrid model means the event will take place as originally planned, the ACC will remain united and united, and the great game of cricket will continue to thrive and move forward in what will be interesting and exciting times for subcontinent cricket fans. . in the next 20 months”.

YoIndia and Pakistan are placed in the same group along with Nepal. While Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in the second group.
