Asia Cup 2023: “We Were Too Good” – Abdul Razzaq’s Shocking Claim On Why India Stopped Playing Bilateral Series Against Pakistan

Former Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzaq spoke about why there are no India-Pakistan bilateral tournaments of late. It has been over a decade since India and Pakistan have only been playing against each other in ICC and Asian Cup tournaments.

Both teams will face each other in the next asian cup and the ODI World Cup later this year. India and Pakistan are placed in the same group in the Asian Cup. The IND-PAK clash at the World Cup will take place on October 15.

Meanwhile, Abdul Razzaq made an interesting comment on why both countries are not currently playing bilateral series. From the way he spoke about him, he sounded willing to resume bilateral ties between the two nations. Razzaq claimed that India did not play Pakistan much since 1997-98 because the former would largely be the recipient of losses.

From 1997 to 1998, they didn’t play much against us because we were too good: Abdul Razzaq

“We share mutual respect and friendship. There is only one Indian team that does not play against Pakistan. From 1997 to 1998, they didn’t play us much because we were too good, India always used to lose. Now, the situation has changed, we are in 2023, but we have to change our way of thinking. No team is big or small, the performance of the day matters.” Razzaq said EHCricket.

“Both teams are good. It cannot be said that the Pakistani team is weak. You watch the Ashes series, can you point out which team is better? The team that plays wins, as simple as that. We have to get out of this and play games, series against each other. Razzaq further said.

The last time Pakistan visited India was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. India defeated Pakistan by six wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. There are reports that India and Pakistan could meet five times this year, including in a possible semi-final clash in Kolkata at the World Cup.
