Australian opener David Warner has confirmed that he plans to publish an autobiography that will have details about the infamous 2018 Cape Town Test match “ball tampering scandal”.
Cricket Australia banned Steve Smith and David Warner for 12 months each, while Cameron Bancroft was suspended for nine months after the trio were found guilty of ball tampering.
Warmer, in his recent interview with former England captain Michael Vaughan and Australian legend Adam Gilchrist on their Prairie Club Fire podcast, said he is willing to write the autobiography so that people know his side of the story.
“There is definitely a book in the works and I think it will be an interesting read. There will be a lot of things in that book that I think will catch your attention. I’ll have to edit some chapters now, a few more have been added. “It was 1,500 pages, now it’s probably 2,000.” said the recently retired cricketer.

He further said that he plans to publish the book after the current generation of Australian cricketers retire, as he does not want the players to be affected by what is revealed in the book during their playing days.
“It’s something that’s been thought about (Newlands is talked about in the book)… it keeps coming up and there’s been a lot of speculation, a lot of commentary about it. “It’s really important that the Australian cricket team is in a great place, that we are playing well in all three formats, and I think that is the top priority.” Warner said.
“My side of the story… that can be told at any time. There are probably some things in the book that will definitely be related to 2018, but potentially won’t touch on what I know, what others know, because then it just becomes tit-for-tat, it’s not that kind of thing. of history”, he added.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia is busy searching for Warner’s replacement ahead of Australia’s next Test series against the West Indies at home starting on January 17 with the first Test in Adelaide. He backed Steve Smith to replace him at the top of the order saying the job should not be considered a skilled job.
“It’s a tough question, Cameron Bancroft came out the other day and talked about a traditionalist, I’ve talked about me never opening and then getting into that position. I think (Smith) would do well, he’s the best Test batsman in the world, he just finds a way. It’s probably the challenge that I think he probably wants to take on. He has checked the box where he is now…he probably just wants to see if he can get out and open it. He will adapt to any situation…he will do it very, very well.” he added.
David Warner retired from Test cricket with 8786 runs in 112 Test matches at an average of 44.6 with 26 centuries, 37 fifties and three double hundreds. He scored 57 in his final Test innings in Sydney as Australia completed a whitewash against Pakistan by winning the Test series 3-0.
