After a couple of very comfortable victories against Oman and England in the opening week of the tournament means Australia will cruise through to the Super 8’s with a victory against an improving Namibian side.

AUSTRALIA FORM: THE TOURNAMENT TEAM

Australia had one of the great years across all formats in 2023 and they will look to add to their trophy collection in 2024. The reigning Test and One-Day International champions have started their tournament with a comfortable victory over Oman before then thumping England at the weekend, becoming the first team to post a score in excess of 200 in this tournament.

NAMIBIA FORM: STILL WITH HOPE

In what has been a tournament of tight and entertaining finishes, Namibia began by edging past Oman via a super over. Their chase of 110 after a good bowling performance stagnated quite a lot but they managed to tie and then cruise over in what is effectively sudden death. Against Scotland, though, despite a decent score of 155-9 in their 20 overs, they could not defend and now must win.

AUSTRALIA BETTING ANALYSIS

What was so impressive about Australia’s batting performance against England was that it was attacking from the off and, a bit like England’s ODI side between 2015 and 2019, relentless down the order. The Australians to go on and post a massive total in excess of 200 if they are betting first with pace still coming down at them from the likes of Ruben Trumpelmann and David Wiese, would seem a good bet.

One of the specific bowling disciplines that has had quite a lot of joy at this tournament so far is left-arm pace and the Australians have one of the best big game players for just that in Mitchell Starc. As he seeks to rack up the wickets and his overall tally, backing him to be their best bowler in this match (3/1) is likely.

NAMIBIA BETTING ANALYSIS

Namibia are far from a one man team but it would be fair to suggest they would be nowhere near as strong or as capable as they are if it wasn’t for their former South Africa international all-rounder David Wiese. If the Namibians are to spring a major upset here then Wiese will have to be instrumental and, therefore, a longshot bet of him to be the Man of the Match (28/1) may be worth a go.

What Oman did to dry Australia up for large parts of their powerplay last week was to take pace almost completely off the ball. If Namibia are to try and replicate that plan then that would mean the likes of Bernard Scholtz and Gerhard Erasmus would be essential. Erasmus to be Namibia’s best bowler in the match (9/2) could be worth a punt after he picked up 2-29 against Scotland last week.

AUSTRALIA VS NAMIBIA EXPERT PREDICTION

Australia could become rampant here. With the looming possibility of being world champions in all three formats, the Aussies look very strong but also look as though they have a few gears still to go through. They face a Namibian side that, even in their one defeat, looked strong enough to compete against an impressive Scottish side but they should still be no match for what has already become a winning machine.

AUSTRALIA VS NAMIBIA TOP TIP: AUSTRALIA TO WIN
