AUSTRALIA
Although Australia have already claimed an unassailable lead in this three-match series, motivation will still be high ahead of the final Test at the SCG. Mainly because it will be the final occasion that long-standing opener David Warner pads up in Test match whites before retirement from the red ball game. It has been a long time coming for Warner, who had earmarked this Test as his last for a while and he’ll no doubt be desperately to bow out with one more big score for his country in Test match cricket.
PAKISTAN
Pakistan are looking to salvage some pride in the third and final Test, but the reality is that they’ve been comprehensively outplayed so far. To their credit though, Shan Masood’s side put up significantly more of a fight in Melbourne, losing the Boxing Day Test by just 79 runs as opposed to the 360-run hammering served up to them in Perth. But their batting remains far inferior to that of Australia, as does the depth of their bowling attack.
THE PREDICTION
It’s hard not to see Australia again dominating the vast majority of this Test as they look to send Warner out on a high. All eyes will be on the veteran opener, but that won’t stop the rest of their side from losing focus, the carrot of a 3-0 sweep there for the taking. If Australia play as they have done as a collective unit across the series so far, Pakistan will not be able to match them and this third Test will end the same way as the previous two, with the hosts winning it.
