Former Pakistan national cricket team pacer Shoaib Akhtar made a massive statement for Babar Azam. He said that the batsman needs to be dominant in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Otherwise, the road will be very difficult for him.
Pakistan national cricket team batsman Babar has been under massive scanner for the past few months. The opener batsman has failed to deliver for his team in all three formats of the game and this has also faced him a lot of criticism from various fans and experts.
Babar Azam has failed to score runs for Pakistan in all formats
Babar, considered one of the best batsmen to have played for Pakistan, has consistently failed and made no lasting impact for the team. Their poor performances have been one of the main reasons behind the Pakistan national cricket team’s poor performances across all formats.
Babar was recently dropped from the Test squad and was not part of the team in the last two matches against the England national cricket team. This came after his disappointing performances in the longest format of the game in recent years, where he averaged around 20.
Babar Azam then returned in the white-ball series against the Australia national cricket team. He did not get many opportunities to bat in the ODI series but failed terribly in the T20I series as he recorded low scores in all three games.

With Babar struggling to get going, Shoaib Akhtar said that while he backs the team’s batsman, the right-hander must understand that the new management will not consider him for T20Is and even ODIs. Speaking to the television channel, he explained:
“He is our star, I support him, but the thing is that with the new management, with the new mentality, he has to create a neurological wiring, he has to change it, that now the new management will not consider him in T20, even in fact , even in one day.”

Shoaib Akhtar further mentioned that ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be the place for Babar Azam to regain his stature. He highlighted that the batsman needs to dominate the tournament and achieve three winning tons. He explained:
“The Champions Trophy is the time and the place where Babar needs to be at the forefront for me, for Pakistan. He should dominate and say: I have three hundreds in the Champions Trophy and with them you will win matches. If he does this, then he will come back. Otherwise , the road will be very difficult for him.”
