Bangladesh national cricket team assistant coach Nic Pothas has spoken about why his team’s players are unable to hit sixes in the ongoing T20I series against the Indian national cricket team. He said that they do not have strong players but that they are working on that aspect.
Bangladesh national cricket team will take on India national cricket team in the last match of the three-match series. The final match of the series between the teams will be played on Saturday (October 12) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The series has already been won by the Indian team after their two amazing performances in the two matches in Guwahati and Delhi. One of the reasons behind the series loss for the Bangladesh national cricket team has been their batting, which has struggled to get going in both the games.
Bangladesh have hit only 8 sixes in series so far
The Bangladesh batsmen seemed completely clueless and failed to score runs. One of the main reasons why India are leading in the series is the number of sixes they have. They have hit 22 sixes in two games, while the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team has only hit 8 sixes, which speaks volumes about their poor effort.
Bangladesh batsmen have also mentioned that they are not used to batting on courts, where scores range between 180 and 190. They have expressed their desire to have pitches like these at home, saying that they are used to playing on courts where scores range between 140 and 150 races.
We are working on our strength and conditioning but you can’t fight genetics – Nic Pothas, Bangladesh assistant coach
While talking about the players’ inability to achieve six-hitters, Nic Pothas mentioned that India has stronger players but they are working on their strength and conditioning. He admitted that although time and technique are important, they cannot combat genetics. Speaking to reporters, he explained:
“They have much stronger players. We are working on our strength and conditioning, but you can’t fight genetics. If one player weighs 95-100kg and another weighs 65kg, naturally the heavier player will hit the ball further. Of course, timing and technique are important and we constantly work on those aspects.”
Comparing India’s six-hitters to ours is like comparing how many six-hitters the West Indies hit compared to us – Nic Pothas
Nic Pothas highlighted how Indian players arrive battle-ready on the international stage thanks to the Indian Premier League. He said comparing the six skills of Indian players with them is like comparing them with the West Indies. He added:
“You also have to look at the IPL. It is the best competition in the world, with top-class players. The IPL prepares players for the international stage. Comparing India’s six-hitters with ours is like comparing how many six-hitters the West Indies compared to us”,
Those led by Najmul Hossain Shanto have a very young team of players who are still trying to get going in international cricket. They would be eager to finish the series on a high by winning the last match.
