BCB will discuss the captaincy with Tamim Iqbal:
With Tamim Iqbal deciding to overturn his retirement decision, a final decision on his ODI captaincy can also be expected. The BCB are ready to discuss the same with the senior batsman once he returns home from traveling to Dubai and the UK for medical reasons. The leadoff hitter will make the rounds to have his back checked.
“Tamim is going to Dubai. He will go to the UK on July 25 or 26. She has taken two appointments at two London medical centers”. BCB’s president of cricket operations Jalal Yunus told reporters on Chattogram on Tuesday.
“First let him come. We are discussing it (the captaincy) with him. There is a problem with his physical condition. He (Tamim) said: let me go and then we will discuss it. added.
Speaking further, Jalal said that Bangladesh will form a preliminary team for the Asian Cup. As for Tamim’s presence, it will depend on his physical form. The 2023 Asia Cup is scheduled to be played from August 31 to September 17. With the World Cup due to be played in October, Bangladesh is unlikely to take any chances with the fitness of their star batsman.
“We will deliver a preliminary team of 25-26 members (for the Asian Cup) and we will know when he can join the camp. We will be observing his physical condition to decide on that. Everyone would rest until 30 (July). Some were going to play outside. Then we would start our preparations (for the Asian Cup) with a conditioning camp.” he said.
