In the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24, table leaders Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers faced each other on Wednesday (January 10). The 32nd match of the tournament took place at the Gabba in Brisbane and saw The hosts won the match comfortably and extended their winning streak.
Brisbane Heat won the toss and elected to bat first. They did not get off to a great start with the bat as they lost openers Usman Khawaja (14) and Colin Munro (3) early. But after that, Marnus Labuschagne (45) and Matt Renshaw (18) played useful knocks that brought the team back into the game.
After that, Sam Billings (37) added a vital hand before Michael Neser (64*) played a sensational knock to take the team to the grand total of 191 runs. Ashton Agar was the choice of the players with his figures of 29/2. While Jason Behrendorff, Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris also contributed.
The Perth Scorchers didn’t get off to a great start with the bat. Openers Zack Crawley (13) and Sam Whiteman (16) came out after the outs. They were reeling at 40/2 when captain Aaron Hardie and Josh Inglis came together and tried to get the team out of trouble but the captain could not do so as he perished too early for just 14 runs.
But Josh Inglis (28) and Laurie Evans (51) after that put Brisbane Heat under immense pressure and added 48 runs to the partnership. The way they were batting it looked like they were going to take their team home. But Brisbane’s bowlers made a stunning comeback and picked wickets in no time.
Brisbane Heat outscored Perth Scorchers by 168 runs to win the game by 23 runs. Micheal Neser, Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson and Paul Walter picked two wickets each. While Matthew Kuhnemann got a scalp and helped the team win.

The Perth Scorchers, despite the defeat, are in second place. The Sydney Sixers are followed by the Melbourne Stars. While Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades occupy the seventh and eighth places in the table.
