Melbourne Stars were seen in action against Sydney Sixers in game 28 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24. The game between the two teams took place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground and saw the Sixers win the game with ease and get crucial points under their belt.
Asked to bat first, the Melbourne Stars got off to a decent start with the bat as Thomas Rogers (19) and Daniel Lawrence (36) added 41 runs for the opening stand. They set the tone for the team before the former went down early. They came under pressure when Beau Webster bagged a duck and were reeling at 41/2.
Captain Glenn Maxwell played a blinder which provided a much-needed boost for the Melbourne Stars. He scored 31 runs in 14 balls. Earlier, Marcus Stoinis (34*) and Hilton Cartwright (29*) added 56 runs for the fifth wicket and propelled their team to a total of 156 runs.
For the Sydney Sixers, Todd Murphy was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with the figures of 2/fifteen. Apart from him, Tom Curran and Ben Dwarshuis also picked up a wicket as they helped their team limit the opposition to a low total.
The Sydney Sixers in the chase are off to a great start, courtesy of James Vince. Josh Phillippe (9) tried to get going but lost his wicket early on. The batsman’s wicket was a blessing in disguise for the team as they did not go wrong after that.
James Vince (79) and Daniel Hughes (41) took the game away from the opposition and batted superbly well. They added 99 runs for the third wicket and ensured they brought their team closer to the target. They couldn’t finish the game as they lost wickets at crucial moments.
Moisés Henriques (8*) and Jordan Silk (13*) did the unfinished business and led their team to a comfortable 7-wicket victory. For Melbourne Stars, Scott Boland picked two wickets.
