In the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24, two matches were played on Wednesday (January 3). The first match of the tournament took place between Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat, while Perth Scorchers vs Adelaide Strikers were in the fray in the evening match.

In the first match of the BBL 2023-24 on Wednesday, the Brisbane Heat emerged victorious by 3 runs and earned the two important points. Opting to field first, they defeated the Sydney Sixers by just 141 runs. Matthew Kuhnemann and Paul Walter got two wickets, while Spencer Johnson and XC Bartlett got a scalp each.

For the Sydney Sixers, Josh Phillippe (41) was the leading run-scorer while other batsmen failed to advance. Captain Moisés Henriques (22) and Jack Edwards (22) started but failed to convert and were left out at crucial moments in the game.

In the chase, Brisbane Heat opener Josh Brown (43) played a big hand for the team on top. Nathan McSweeney (22) and Paul Walter (23*) played vital hands in comfortably causing the target, which was revised to 104 due to DLS.

In the second game of BBL 2023-24 on Wednesday, Perth Scorchers recorded a 42-run win over Adelaide Strikers. When asked to bat first, they put a mammoth total of 211 runs on the board. Laurie Evans (85*) played a stunning innings, while Sam Whiteman (34), Aaron Hardie (34) and Josh Inglis (26) also contributed.

Adelaide Strikers got off to a decent start as Matthew Short (74) played a great hand at the top. Chris Lynn (27) also played a vital hand, while Thomas Kelly (29) also contributed. But it was not enough as the Perth Scorchers continued to contribute at regular intervals and defeated the opponents by just 169 runs.

Lance Morris was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged 5 wickets. Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson also contributed 2 wickets each as they bundled out the opponents for a low total to win the game by 42 runs.

After the 24th and 25th matches of the BBL 2023-24, Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers are in the top two places after their victories.
