BCCI releases 3 players from team ahead of day 5 of IND vs BAN Kanpur Test

Three players from the Indian Test team have been released to participate in the 2024-25 Iran Cup, the BCCI announced on Monday (September 30) evening.

Team India is currently playing the second Test against Bangladesh at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur. The last match of the two-Test series will conclude on Tuesday (October 1). And ahead of the last day of the Test, Sarfaraz Khan Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been released from the Test squad.

All three players did not get a chance in India’s playing XI for both Tests. Sarfaraz and Jurel made their Test debuts earlier this year during the home series against England. Both players impressed in their debut series. However, with the return of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to the team, they were dropped from the playing eleven.

On the other hand, Dayal had earned his first trial call-up. After impressing in the domestic circuit, the left-arm pacer was included in India’s squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh. However, with players like Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj in the team, Dayal could only warm the bench during the series.

The three players will now look to make an impact in the Iranian Cup match. The match will be played between reigning Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai and Rest of India. Sarfaraz will play for Mumbai, while Jurel and Dayal will represent the rest of India.

The BCCI recently announced the schedule for the 2024-25 Iranian Cup:

The Iranian Cup match is scheduled to start on Tuesday (October 1). The match will be played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The match was originally scheduled to be played in Mumbai, but the BCCI decided to shift the venue due to weather conditions.

The next match will be the 61st edition of the Iran Cup. The much-awaited match will begin at 9:30 am IST.
