New Zealand seamer Kylie Jamieson experienced tightness in her left hamstring after traveling back to New Zealand from Bangladesh. As a precautionary measure, Ben Sears will join the BlackCaps’ ODI squad in Dunedin as cover for Kyle Jamieson. The Test team returned to New Zealand on Tuesday night and Jamieson flew to Dunedin on Thursday. Dunedin will host the first ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh.
Kiwis coach Gary Stead called the selection of Ben Sears a “precautionary” measure. Ben Sears is yet to make his debut in ODI cricket but has been part of the team and previously shared a dressing room with other Kiwis.
“We are taking a cautious approach with Kyle. We don’t want to rush you or set you back, especially at the beginning of summer at home. He could play if absolutely necessary, but we don’t want to take unnecessary risks, so we called Ben up for this first game. “Ben is familiar with the team environment and it has been good to see him back in top form for the Firebirds,” said coach Gary Stead.
New Zealand to host Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is
Bangladesh will play three ODIs and three T20Is in New Zealand after hosting the Kiwis in a two-match Test series in Bangladesh. The Test series between the two nations ended in a 1-1 draw and Bangladesh will now hope to perform against an in-form New Zealand team. Tom Latham will lead the Blackcaps and the likes of Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Tim Southee and Trent Boult will not be available for the series.
The T20I squad for New Zealand is yet to be announced, while the ODI bowling attack will feature Adam Milne, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy and bowlers Ish Sodhi and Adithya Ashok. The Bangladesh team will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto with veteran players like Soumya Sarkar, Mustafizur Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das present in the team.
The Blackcaps won the ODI series in Bangladesh defeating the hosts 2-0 and now Bangladesh will be looking for revenge. However, New Zealand have an excellent record at home and will leave no chance of dominating Bangladesh.
