Ben Stokes attacked for a classless comment after Ravindra Jadaja and Washington Sundar deny the squeeze

The 4th Eng vs IND test in Manchester could have ended in a draw, but not before a dramatic episode that once again put both teams in Loggerheads. When the referees pointed out a break of drinks in the final session of the 5th day, England captain Ben Stokes headed towards the Ravindra Jadaja and Washington Sugar batters to shake hands and call it a draw.

However, with a sundar and light in 80* and 89*, respectively and individual, on the horizon, the Indian players denied the offer. That led Ben Stokes to tell Jaddu,

“Do you want to write a hundred against Harry Brook?”

The statement could be interpreted as an insult, especially from an Indian point of view since Brook is not a regular bowling player.

However, Harry Brook was brought to play the next and India hit another five overs when both players reached their respective tons before accepting the raffle.

However, Stokes’ comments in the middle caused mixed reactions of former Crickt players and fans equally. See some of the best below.

Sanjay Manjrekar- “The only argument I had was that if India promised that in 15-20 minutes nothing happened, we can strengthen the hand. If that were the case, and then they had two batters close to one hundred, I can understand the frustration. But that did not happen. I would not have done a way in which India would assume that offer. Stokes should have known. Centuries.”

India avoids the loss of the series in Manchester after the rescue raffle

Shubman Gill and Co put a great effort to deny England the opportunity to conclude the series in Manchester despite looking in a precarious situation at one stage. After England took a massive advantage of 311 races with a total of 669 in response to the 358 of India after the first tickets, the visitors received early blows losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for the respective ducks and were reduced to 0/2.

However, Captain Shubman Gill (103) and KL Rahul (90) made peace with a skilled 188 races before Washington Suandar (101) and Ravindra Jadaja (107) reached individual centuries to help India secure a raffle comfortably.

With the tilted series marker in favor of England in 2-1, the Indian raffle in Manchester still keeps them alive and will now go to Oval with a clear objective to win and level the series.
