It is understood that Pant is not the first choice for the DC captaincy.
Ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction, a big franchise has set its sights on dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in a captaincy role as rumors of his release from Delhi Capitals (DC ).
While reports have suggested that the DC franchise is keen to retain Pant, it is also understood that he might not be the first choice for the captaincy.
Notably, there have been multiple discussions between Pant and the DC owners and the latest developments indicate that the Indian star wants the captaincy but the current management is not very interested in it, which could lead to Pant being involved in the IPL 2025 auction and spark a bidding war.

Unless there is a last-minute change of plans, Pant is expected to participate in the auction, where he is anticipated to attract significant interest with a major franchise in search of a captain.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is closely monitoring the situation and it would not be surprising if they bid aggressively for him during the mega auction. With KL Rahul also expected to enter the auction pool, RCB’s options have expanded but Pant is still considered a top target for the team.
Following the retirement of Dinesh Karthik, RCB are looking for a wicketkeeper in the middle order and Pant seems to be an ideal fit, making him a strong candidate for captaincy as well.
Apart from RCB, Lucknow Supergiants (LSG), who have reportedly decided to part ways with KL Rahul, and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are also likely to compete for the left-hander. Ricky Ponting, the new head coach of the Punjab team, has a strong relationship with Pant since their time together at the Capitals.
