World Cup winner Piyush Chawla believes wrist bowler Kuldeep Yadav will be India’s trump card in the T20 WC 2024 semi-final.

Piyush Chawla’s comments came on the eve of India’s clash against Jos Buttler’s England in the second semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The match will be a daytime fixture, telecast in prime time at 8 pm in the Indian subcontinent and will be held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

All eyes will be on Indian players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, among others. Team India has to put in the kind of performance against England as they did against Mitchell Marsh’s Australia in their previous World T20 match. The Men in Blue, after posting a total of over 200, won by 24 runs at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St. Vincent.

In that game, Arshdeep Singh had claimed 3 wickets with Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel picking up one wicket each. There was also an unsung hero – Kuldeep Yadav, who bowled all four of his overs efficiently, conceding just 6 runs per over while picking up a couple of wickets along the way.

During the semi-final against England later today, former leg-spinner Piyush Chawla feels that Kuldeep Yadav will once again be among the wickets.

Piyush Chawla feels Kuldeep Yadav’s absence was felt in WC T20 2022 semi-final

While speaking to Star Sports recently, Piyush Chawla spoke about the impact that Kuldeep Yadav is capable of making in a particular game. The Chinaman, who did not play in the 2022 World T20 due to injury, apparently had one of the biggest comebacks in the Indian team, according to Chawla.

Kuldeep Yadav could have made a big difference in the 2022 World T20 semi-final due to several factors. First, his unconventional left-arm wrist spin, his ability to generate spin and bounce, followed by his variations.

“Kuldeep Yadav’s resurgence has been one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Indian cricket. His absence in the 2022 semi-final was a major loss for India but this time, he is in excellent form and ready to make a substantial impact. The unorthodox left-arm wrist spin and ability to extract spin and bounce, coupled with his deceptive variations, can be a game-changer in the middle overs,” Chawla told Star Sports.

Kuldeep will be the revolutionary of India

Piyush Chawla said that since Kuldeep Yadav has a good playing record against England, it will be easy for him to play to disrupt their batting order. Given his current form and confidence, Chawla believes that Kuldeep will be India’s game-changer and trump card.

“He also has a good track record playing against England. In the upcoming semi-final, Kuldeep will be crucial in breaking England’s aggressive batting mantra. He will be India’s trump card against England’s explosive batting order. Given his form and confidence Kuldeep Yadav is primed to be a major threat, making the middle overs a challenging period for England’s batsmen,” Piyush Chawla concluded.
