Australia suffered an injury setback in the first over of their ongoing game against Pakistan in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Their fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck had to leave the field after suffering a serious injury early in the game.
The incident took place on the fourth ball of the first over when Megan Schutt was bowling to Muneeba Ali. Schutt bowled a full toss outside and Muneeba went for a spin. However, he couldn’t make good contact with the ball and ended up going over the slide cordon.
Tayla Vlaeminck chased the ball but ended up suffering a serious injury. While chasing the ball, his knee got stuck in the grass and he landed awkwardly on his arm. He ended up injuring his previously injured shoulder. Tayla Vlaeminck immediately looked in pain when the physical therapist came running over.
Although he received treatment on the field, he was unable to continue and left the field immediately after suffering the injury. The Australian women’s team later provided an update on the bowler, saying she dislocated her right shoulder. His shoulder has been relocated, but the extent of the injury will only be known after further evaluation.
“Tayla dislocated her right shoulder while attempting to stop a barrier. Her shoulder is now relocated and the extent of the injury will be known following further evaluation in the coming days,” the Australian team’s statement said.
An update from the Australian camp on Tayla Vlaeminck:
“Tayla dislocated her right shoulder while trying to stop a boundary. “His shoulder is now relocated and the extent of the injury will be known following further evaluation in the coming days.”

Another setback for Tayla Vlaeminck:
Tayla Vlaeminck has suffered several injuries throughout her career so far and is hoping the latest setback is not serious enough to rule her out of the ongoing World Cup.
During the 2020 edition of the T20 World Cup, he suffered a stress fracture in his foot and missed Australia’s victorious campaign. She also missed the 2022 Women’s World Cup due to a shoulder injury. Australia had also won that tournament.
In 2023, he failed to make the cut in Australia’s winning squad for the T20 World Cup in South Africa. The 25-year-old has played 19 T20Is so far and has picked up 18 wickets. The ongoing match against Pakistan was their first match in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
