Durban Super Giants (DSG) on Monday (July 22) strengthened their batting line-up for SA20 2025. Sister franchise Lucknow Super Giants roped in West Indies opening batsman Brandon King for the 2025 edition of the tournament.

Brandon King, who is a veteran of T20 cricket, will add a wealth of experience to the Durban Super Giants batting line-up. The right-handed bowler has played 142 matches in the shortest format of the game. This also includes 55 T20 internationals for the West Indies.

Brandon King was one of the key assets for the West Indies National Cricket Team in the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup. The opening batsman played the opening matches of the tournament and ensured that he got the team off to a flying start with the bat in the matches he played in the tournament, which was held in the Caribbean and the USA.

However, Brandon King was unable to play the entire tournament due to a side injury. The opening batsman was injured in the Super Eight match against England in St Lucia and was subsequently ruled out of the tournament. Kyle Myers was his replacement.

Brandon King has been in the shortest format of the game for the past 12 months. He was also named in the 2023 Caribbean Premier League Team of the Tournament. He amassed 288 runs for the now-defunct Jamaica Tallawahs in the tournament, helping his side get off to a flying start.

Brandon King has also been in sensational form in international cricket. In the build-up to the 2024 T20 World Cup, in the series against South Africa, the opening batsman scored 179 runs at an average of 53.0 during the three-match series, finishing the series as the leading run-scorer.

Brandon King has been a fantastic batsman in the T20 format. The opening batsman has hit 3349 runs in T20 at an average of 27.51 and a strike rate of 133.31. Apart from this, the right-hander has also hit two centuries and 21 half-centuries in his career.

With the addition of Brandon King, the Durban Super Giants will head into SA20 2025 with plenty of confidence. They finished the 2024 edition of the tournament as runners-up and with King’s addition, they will be hoping to go one step further and win the tournament.

Brandon King becomes the sixth West Indies player to play for the Durban Super Giants

With the addition of Brandon King to the squad, he becomes the sixth West Indies player to play for the franchise. He joins the likes of Johnson Charles, Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder, Keemo Paul and Nicholas Pooran, who have played for the team in the last two seasons.

Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers, along with all-rounders Jason Holder and Keemo Paul, were part of the Durban Super Giants in Season 1. While Myers and Paul played in Season 2, Holder and Charles were part of the other teams. They were also bolstered by the inclusion of Nicholas Pooran, who joined as a wildcard for Season 2.
