Several young faces have appeared across formats in the recent past, and some of them have made an instant impact in their respective departments.
The Indian team is currently going through a transition, especially in Tests and T20Is. The retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the shorter format and India looking beyond Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have tempted them to look for new options, and the last few series have been a step in the same direction.
Several young faces have appeared across formats in the recent past, and some of them have made an instant impact in their respective departments. No wonder those youngsters have caught the attention of several former players, including West Indies legend Brian Lara.
Lara picked Abhishek Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal as the two interesting Indian batsmen at the moment. He explained that they play attacking cricket and have a lot of style.
“Firstly, they (Abhishek and Jaiswal) are left-handed. They are very young and play with a style [that is] Very attacking, very elegant. It is fantastic to see them going from strength to strength,” Lara said during an event in Mumbai today.
Jaiswal and Abhishek are having a fantastic year on a personal level
Talking about their careers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhishek Sharma are going through a rough patch in 2024. Jaiswal has been a revelation in the Test format, having scored 929 runs at an average of 66.35, including six fifties and two centuries, in 15 entries.
Furthermore, he also made a significant impact in the T20I format and scored runs at every possible opportunity. His strike rate of 164.31 shows how ultra-aggressive he has been in the shortest format.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma has been phenomenal, turning in a consistent six-hitter in T20. He scored 484 runs at an average of 32.26 and a magnificent strike rate of 204.21 in 16 outings, including three fifties.
He carried his IPL form into international cricket, scoring a century in his first T20I series against Zimbabwe earlier this year. Abhishek has played five matches in the shortest format, scoring 140 runs at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 179.48, with a best of 100.
