Kohli’s persistent problems with spin were highlighted once again against New Zealand
Former India captain and star batsman Virat Kohli has been going through a rough patch in the longest format for some time.
His fortunes did not change in the first two IND vs NZ Tests either, posting scores of 0, 70, 1 and 17 in the four innings.
To put things into perspective, Kohli’s numbers in goals have taken a big hit since 2020, having added just two hundreds in the period.
Virat Kohli last recorded a Test century in mid-2023 during India’s tour of the West Indies. Since then, he has played 12 innings, reaching fifty runs only twice. The dynamic right-hander’s Test average has now fallen to just above 48.
Furthermore, Kohli’s persistent problems with spin were highlighted as he was dismissed by the spinners three of the four times against the Kiwis.
Dinesh Karthik proposes a solution for Virat Kohli to better deal with the effects
Echoing the same line, former India wicketkeeper-batsman and Kohli’s former RCB teammate Dinesh Karthik came up with a suggestion to help India’s star batsman find form.
Karthik highlighted that Kohli must find ways to eradicate the repeated pattern of being dismissed by spin bowling.
Karthik said while talking to Cricbuzz, “At the moment, Virat Kohli’s Test record in the last 2-3 years has not been great against spin.”
“What he probably needs to do is get back to domestic cricket and focus on what needs to be done with the current DRS rules. There is no doubt that left-arm spinners pose a big threat.”
Notably, Kohli has not appeared in a domestic First-Class match since 2012.

With the Border Gavaskar Trophy lined up next, Karthik’s suggestion can really help Kohli assess and fix specific areas in his batting as India look forward to a record-breaking hat-trick of wins in Australia.
