Cheteshwar Pujara’s name has been floating in the news a lot ever since Shubman Gill got injured.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s name has been floating in the news a lot ever since Shubman Gill got injured. The young batsman fractured his thumb while taking a catch during the match simulation and has reportedly been ruled out of the upcoming first Test against the Australian National Cricket Team.
This has seen many growing calls to include Cheteshwar Pujara in the Indian team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. This was because the batsman played a pivotal role for the team during the last two tours to Australia and helped the team write history by winning both series.
Cheteshwar Pujara was the main factor behind India’s historic 2018/19 series win in Australia. He was Player of the Series by scoring 521 runs in four Tests at 74.42. In the next series, it was the Indian team’s batting wall. The batsman took a lot of blows on the body and allowed the batsmen to score runs freely.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s last appearance was for India during the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s last appearance was for India during the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final. After that, he did not appear for the team in the format. After being dropped, Shubman Gill was ranked at number 3 and has been batting quite well in the format, scoring runs in crucial phases for the team.
Shubman Gill, who has scored over 800 runs in Test cricket, will miss the Perth Test. This comes as a huge blow to the Indian national cricket team as his absence will leave a big void in the team. He has a decent track record in Australian conditions and will be key for his team in the series.
Devdutt Padikkal likely to bat at No. 3 during Perth Test
In his absence, the Indian team management reportedly asked Devdutt Padikkal to stay back. The young batsman was part of India’s A team and seemed to have a decent touch in the A games. Reports claimed that he is likely to bat at number 3 in the opening game.
It remains to be seen who will be the Indian team batting at number 3 in the first Test against the Australian National Cricket Team. India will also not be without the services of Rohit Sharma in the opening match as he is still in India. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to captain the team.
