Gujarat Titans failed to qualify for the finals after reaching the finals back-to-back in 2022 and 2023. Before the season started, Hardik Pandya moved to Mumbai Indians leaving a huge void to fill.
Shubman Gill was appointed captain of the team and the franchise asked him to do a lot of work. He finished the season with 426 runs. Sai Sudharsan scored 527, but there was hardly any contribution from the middle order to support the top order.
The biggest problem for GT was finding a replacement for Hardik Pandya, something they ultimately failed to find. They tried to play with the best resources available, but that was not enough to make it through to the playoffs.
They are too reliant on individual players to win their matches. The absence of a quality all-rounder in the middle order affected their performance.
Several important points were discussed in the meeting between the IPL franchises and the BCCI. Several franchises suggested that mega auctions be done away with.
Some others suggested that a maximum number of retentions be allowed. SRH co-owner Kavya Maran also requested the BCCI to ban foreign players from withdrawing from the season after registering for the auction.
In response, the BCCI said that it will review all the suggestions and then take a decision by the end of August 2024. However, several changes can be expected in the upcoming IPL season that should make it even more interesting.
The campaign ended with seven wins and as many losses and the franchise seemed to be missing players like Shami and Hardik. Several suggestions were raised in the meeting between the IPL franchisees and the BCCI.
There were several things discussed regarding the number of retentions for Impact players. Meanwhile, in this article, we look at three players that GT could release ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Wriddhiman Saha
Saha will almost turn 40 when the next IPL season begins. With teams looking for younger players in the format, Saha might lose popularity.
He was consistent for them over the past two seasons. However, in 2024, he has scored just 139 runs at an average of 15.11. With GT looking to rebuild, it is possible they will look beyond Saha next year.
Vijay Shankar
The all-rounder scored just 83 runs in seven matches. He was benched for seven matches as the coaching staff was keen to try out other players. Shankar is hardly used with the ball in GT.
As a franchise, they rely on all-rounders to do their job and will be looking for better options than the Indian all-rounders going into 2025.
Jayant Yadav
The off-spinner played just one match for the franchise last season and was benched for the entire 2024 season. With Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed in the squad, it is almost impossible for other spinners to break into the XI.
Moreover, Jayant is nowhere close to being selected by India as he last played for the country in 2016. Hence, the off-spinner could be released by the franchise.
