Such a high-octane clash is sure to raise the temperature, and the disappointment in the Afghan camp was understandable.
The drama unfolded during the Emerging Teams Asia Cup semi-final match between India A and Afghanistan A in the first delivery of the 15th over. Aaqib Khan bowled a longer delivery on the leg stump line, which Zubaid Akbari tried to hit the ball at length but couldn’t get a connection.
The ball flew straight towards wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh, who lunged towards the ball and completed a catch. India A appealed, but the referee did not raise his finger and the defenders continued to appeal.
While there was no review and ultra advantage, the on-field umpire went upstairs and after watching several reviews, the big screen loaded, but the batsman was not happy with the decision. He probably had issues with two things: first, why the referee reviewed the call, and second, the replays weren’t conclusive enough to rule it out.

He had a long talk with the referee and the matter escalated and the coaches got involved. The coach of the Afghanistan team was not happy with the decision and asked his batsman to stay in the crease and not return.
Zubaid finally returns after major drama
Soon, the Indian coaches also got involved and the coaches of both the teams had a long discussion. The match referee soon arrived at the scene, spoke to Afghanistan’s technical department and tried to control the situation.
Meanwhile, the on-field umpires tried to explain to the batsman that the final decision taken by the TV official could not be reversed and at the same time calm him down. The batsman was rightly furious, because there was no review or advantage to reach any conclusion, but only because the Indian players kept appealing, the umpire went upstairs.
Finally, the batsman had to return dejected after a long altercation with the umpire, and the Afghanistan dressing room was not satisfied with the decision. Zubaid played a fantastic knock of 64 runs off 41 balls, including five boundaries and four maximums, at a strike rate of 156.10 to provide a solid base for the batsmen to follow.
Prabhsimran made a fantastic catch but controversy took away his excellent effort. Such a high-octane clash is sure to raise the temperature, and the disappointment in the Afghan camp was understandable.
