Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan to return home

Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will reportedly return home after the conclusion of the US leg of India’s matches in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Team India is currently in the US for their T20 World Cup group matches. All of their group matches were scheduled to be played in the United States. They have already played their first three matches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, while their fourth and final match is scheduled to be played at the Turf Ground Stadium at Central Broward Regional Park in Florida.

India will take on Canada on Saturday (June 15) in Florida before flying to the Caribbean for the Super 8s. According to a report by Cricbuzz, both Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will return home after the final group match. Both players are not part of the main team but are in the reserve.

The report further indicated that both players were in Florida on Thursday, having flown with the team from New York to Fort Lauderdale on a charter flight on Wednesday. The media outlet also stated that both Gill and Avesh were with the team only as substitutes in case of unexpected injuries.

They accompanied the team to the US with the main team only because the BCCI would not be able to send reinforcements from India to the US or the Caribbean immediately in case of an unforeseen injury to a player. The other two reserve players, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, are likely to remain with the team and travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, for the first Super 8 match.
