Let’s see how CSK could arrange their strongest playing XI for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
The five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners made some smart purchases in the IPL 2025 auction as they targeted a record sixth title.
After retaining their star icons like MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana, CSK further strengthened their squad by adding twelve more players in the auction.
The Chennai team splashed INR 9.75 crore from their purse to bring back Ravichandran Ashwin and reunite the Ash-Jaddu pair once again. However, their biggest signing was Afghan player Noor Ahmad for Rs 10 million. They filled out their full roster of 25 players and have most of their bases covered.

Strongest CSK Playing XI for IPL 2025:
Ruturaj Gaikwad Devon Conway Rachin Ravindra Rahul Tripathi Shivam Dube Ravindra Jadeja MS Dhoni (wk) Sam Curran Ravichandran Ashwin Khaleel Ahmed Matheesha Pathirana
Bench: Vijay Shankar, Noor Ahmad, Mukesh Choudhary, Shaik Rasheed, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Nathan Ellis, Jamie Overton, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Shreyas Gopal, Vansh Bedi, Andre Siddharth, Deepak Hooda
Strongest points:
Strong top-order batting line-up after bringing back their star batsmen Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra from last season. Great batting depth up to number 9. The Ash-Jaddu pair reunites along with Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad and forms a lethal trio. Great all-round reinforcements in Vijay Shankar, Jamie Overton, Anshul Kamboj and Ramakrishna Ghosh.
Weakest points:
The extent of involvement of Deepak Hooda and Vijay Shankar MS Dhoni is still unknown. He could simply bat as an impact player, with Devon Conway doing Keeper duties.
Will over-reliance on MS Dhoni to finish games end?
Retaining Dhoni as a non-international player turned out to be a budgetary advantage, although his role as a finisher can be physically demanding given his age. CSK have not made any particular addition as a finisher and while Dhoni’s performance will be clinical, CSK will have to keep in mind that an over-reliance on Dhoni to finish matches could strain the team, especially as the newer players they acclimatize.
