Axar Patel, on Wednesday (April 24), took a brilliant catch to dismiss Wriddhiman Saha and gave his team Delhi Capitals a much-needed breakthrough in the ongoing match against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Chasing 225 runs, GT got off to a poor start with their skipper Shubman Gill departing for just six runs in the second over. However, Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan did not allow DC to advance early in the game. He scored at a good pace to keep his team in the fight.

At the end of the powerplay, GT were 67 for 1. The duo made sure to keep the run rate around 10. DC desperately needed a wicket and it finally came in the 10th over, courtesy of a brilliant catch by Axar Patel. . Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav bowled one well outside off stump.

The ball was begging to be hit and Wriddhiman Saha didn’t hesitate. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman decided to take an aerial shot to clear the frame. He made a good connection with the ball, hitting it into the coverage zone. It looked like the ball would easily go over Axar Patel.

However, the DC star, widely considered one of the team’s best defenders, jumped high and caught the ball out of nowhere to give his team a crucial breakthrough. Saha departed after scoring 39 runs off 25 balls with the help of five fours and a six.

After the catch, Axar Patel also impacted with the ball. On the first ball of the 11th over, he dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai for a run to reduce GT to 98 for 3. Early in the game, Axar Patel scored a fine half-century and shared a 100-over stand with captain Rishabh Pant to help . His team posts a grand total.

DC were reeling at 44 for 3 before Pant and Axar shared a 113-run stand for the fourth wicket. Axar departed after scoring 66 runs, while Pant remained unbeaten on 88 off 43 balls.
