Former Indian national cricket team player Deep Dasgupta has made his prediction for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He feels that the Indian national cricket team will win the series but this time it will be a tough challenge for them.
The hype for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has been huge. Almost all Indian and Australian cricket lovers have been waiting for the series as two of the top Test teams will lock horns in the five-match series, which will be played in November-December and January.
Australia and India have fought some high-profile battles over the years. India’s last two tours of Australia have been extremely successful. They have won the last two series by virtue of playing a fantastic brand of cricket, especially on the last tour when they faced India’s second-string team.
The series will certainly be a challenge for both teams as both have been performing sensationally in red-ball cricket. Several experts and fans have already started picking their favourites for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Deep Dasgupta was asked about his prediction for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, to which he replied that India will win but it will be a tougher challenge than the last two tours. He pointed out what Australia lacked in the last two series but believes that with all the big names available this time around, the hosts will be tough to face.
However, according to Deep Dasgupta, India will have an advantage as they are a very experienced team, but their success will depend on the fast bowlers. Speaking to talkSport Cricket’s YouTube channel, he explained:
“Yes (if India will win). But it’s going to be a lot closer than the last two series, which India won in Australia because I thought in the last two, obviously the first one, 2018, Warner and Smithy, all these guys were not available. Then in the last one, I don’t think there was anything wrong with that Australian setup back then.
“With Pat Cummins and all those guys, I think Australia is a better and more cohesive team compared to the last time India toured. India, I would say, would still have the advantage with their experience and all that. But a big unknown for me is India’s success away from India, which is down to the Indian fast bowlers,” Deep Dasgupta said.
I would say India has the advantage – Deep Dasgupta
Deep Dasgupta further pointed out the challenges faced by the Indian team and said that they need to ensure that all their fast bowlers are fit for all the games. He stressed that if all the bowlers are fit, India will have an advantage. He elaborated:
“Shami has been injured. He hasn’t played any competitive cricket so far, as we are recording this. Bumrah, we know he’s been suffering from injuries and stuff like that from time to time. Will he be fit enough to play the five Test matches? So the next group, Siraj and everyone is coming. But I mean, again, if India can put those three guys in for those five Test matches, I would say India has the edge,” he concluded.
