Deepak Chahar and Mayank Yadav are reportedly unlikely to play more matches in the current edition of the Indian Premier League.
Both pacers had to leave the field in their last matches after suffering injuries. On April 30, Mayank Yadav bowled 3.1 overs against Mumbai Indians before leaving the field with a suspected abdominal injury. It was his first IPL match on April 7 when he had to leave the field against the Gujarat Titans due to the same injury. According to a Cricbuzz report, the Lucknow Super Giants pacer is unlikely to feature again this season.
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar suffered a suspected hamstring injury earlier this week while bowling against Punjab Kings. He could bowl only two deliveries before leaving the field. Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has given a worrying update on the pacer. He also said that while the fast bowler is not out of the tournament yet, he definitely has doubts.
“The deep injury doesn’t look good. I won’t say he is ruled out for the season, but it is doubtful,” Viswanathan said before stating that the Rajasthan player has not traveled to Dharamsala for the upcoming match against Punjab Kings.
“He has stayed in Chennai,” Viswanathan confirmed. “We are waiting for a report from the medical team.”
Earlier this week, CSK coach Stephen Fleming also expressed concern over the bowler’s injury, saying: “Deepak Chahar is not looking good. (The) initial feeling was not very good, so I await further report positive. when the physio and doctor take a look.
Big blow for CSK:
Deepak Chahar’s injury is a big blow for CSK, who are also facing other injury problems. Fast bowlers Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande missed the last game against Punjab Kings due to discomfort and flu respectively.
Both players traveled to Dharamshala for the next match but their availability for the match is not yet confirmed as Viswanathan said: “We will only know their availability on Sunday.”
CSK have also lost the services of Mustafizur Rahman. The match against Punjab Kings on May 1 was the last of the season as he returned home to join the Bangladesh team for their ongoing five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.
