Indian women’s all-rounder Deepti Sharma paralyzed the England women’s batsmen with her five-wicket haul on Day 2 of the ongoing Test match. Deepti Sharma picked 5 wickets in the first innings in 5.3 overs and conceded only 7 runs during her spell.

With Sharma’s bowling heroics, India Women bundled out England Women for just 136 in the first innings. Earlier, Harmanpreet & Co. amassed a mammoth 428-10 in the first innings. Therefore, after the end of England’s batting, India Women gained a lead of 292 runs to take a dominant position in the match.

Deepti Sharma breaks record for fewest number of overs by taking Fifer in Tests

With her five-wicket haul, Deepti Sharma also broke a rare record in Tests. She broke the record for the fewest number of overs bowled by a bowler to take five or more wickets in an innings of a Test match in Women’s Cricket.

Sharma bowled just 5.3 overs in the match to post bowling figures of 5-7. He surpassed players like Gargi Banerjee, Betty Wilson, Isobel Joyce and Shubhangi Kulkarni in the list. Below are the details of her records.

Deepti Sharma dismissed Danielle Wyatt, Amy Jones, Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross and Lauren Filer in the match to smash England’s women’s middle and lower order. Sneh Rana picked 2 wickets while Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar took the remaining 2 wickets.

Earlier, India Women posted 428-10 while batting with half-centuries from Shubha Satheesh, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia and Deepti Sharma. Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone picked 3 wickets each for England Women.

At the end of Day 2, India Women reached 186-6 in the second innings. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur kept the strike going with her unbeaten 44 runs. England player Charlotte Dean showed a spectacular performance in the second innings, picking 4 wickets.

India Women reached a huge lead of 478 against England Women in the match to be held at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Notably, India women are playing a test match at home after a gap of nine years.
