Deepti Sharma’s presence of mind results in saucy Sophie Devine run [WATCH]

It was indeed a bad strategy on the part of Devine who is so experienced but credit must be given to Deepti for showing tremendous presence of mind to get a big wicket.

Deepti Sharma’s presence of mind resulted in a cheeky dismissal by Sophie Devine during the sixth over of the 12th over. She was a little careless with her approach and Deepti was proactive enough to find her below the crease.

Deepti bowled a longer delivery, to which Devine came out of his crease and defended himself to the left of the bowler, but did not return to the crease. Deepti at first did not throw it, but when she saw that Devine had not returned to his crease, she threw it to the keeper immediately.

The bouncer, Yastika Bhatia, dislodged the bails, but Devine took a couple of steps back. Replays showed that Devine’s foot was not behind the stumps and, according to the rule, something must be behind the wickets before bails are removed.

The big screen loaded ‘OUT’, and Devine, who should have been prudent enough to reach his place on time, had to depart with a score of 2 in the sixth delivery of the 12th over. It was indeed a bad strategy on the part of Devine who is so experienced but credit must be given to Deepti for showing tremendous presence of mind to get a big wicket.

New Zealand lost seven wickets in 31 overs in the chase

After winning the toss, India opted to bat first but could not do very well with the bat. They could only score 227 and they did it all out in 44.3 overs.

Tejal Hasabnis scored 42 runs while Deepti Sharma also played a good hand of 41 runs. Yastika Bhatia (37) and Jemimah Rodrigues (35) also started but couldn’t convert them into a big score, while Amelia Kerr took four wickets with the ball.

Jess Kerr (3) and Eden Carson (2) also bowled well and played a crucial role in restricting India to just 227. During the chase, New Zealand lost seven wickets for 132 runs in 30.4 overs.

They were unable to form partnerships and India provided steady breakthroughs to keep New Zealand under pressure. They are favorites to win the match and the Kiwis will need a special effort to win it from now on.
