Delhi Capitals (DC) set to bowl three impactful pitches ahead of IPL 2025 auction

We look at three impactful pitches that DC could make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Delhi Capitals (DC) went through a difficult last cycle as they failed to qualify for the playoffs in any of the three editions. Last year they could only win seven games and finished in sixth position with 14 points.

While they failed to qualify for the next round, DC had several quality players and it will be interesting to see their retention strategy. They will be tempted to eliminate some solid options from their team as they prepare for a new cycle.

We look at three impactful pitches that DC could make ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw has been a big disappointment in the last few editions of the IPL as he failed to translate his superior talent into performances. In the previous cycle, their terrible form was one of the main reasons behind DC’s poor show.

He’s not worth enough to retain at this stage, and DC will be tempted to abandon a project they invested so much in. Even his recent form hasn’t been convincing enough to retain him or spend a retention price.

David Warner

David Warner’s recent fall will be one of the main reasons behind his release. He only played eight games in IPL 2024 and was dropped by other players because Warner couldn’t do anything significant.

Additionally, he will soon turn 38, which means he cannot be a long-term investment and may not last another cycle. It will not be wise to invest in an aging batsman whose experience is at its lowest point.

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje was one of Delhi Capitals’ retentions during the last mega auction and the team had high hopes for him. However, things did not go as expected as Nortje struggled with fitness and injuries, which affected his performances.

Last season, he caught just 7 wickets, conceding at an economy rate of 13.36, and was eliminated midway through the tournament. Maybe DC will drop him as his price won’t increase as much as it would have been in the last mega auction, and if they want, the team can bid for him again in the IPL 2025 auction.
