Delhi Capitals (DC) star quit national team due to disciplinary reasons: reports

Earlier, he had missed Mumbai’s conditioning camp in Bengaluru in July.

A Delhi Capitals (DC) batsman has been dropped from his national team in what has been a major development in the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy season. He did not do well in the initial phase of the tournament, which must have influenced his dismissal.

Prithvi Shaw has been excluded from Mumbai’s upcoming match against Tripura in Agartala, starting October 26. According to TOI, the decision to quit is not entirely cricketing as the management has told him to work on his fitness.

“Prithvi’s form has had its ups and downs, but this is not entirely a cricketing decision. The Mumbai selectors and the team management are not happy with his fitness and have specifically told him to work on it. You need to drastically reduce your weight. He has been told that he has been given a ‘break’ in this match,” a source told TOI.

Some sources have also claimed that Shaw was fired for disciplinary reasons, which has also been an issue for him in the past. However, there is no confirmation in this regard from official sources, but a renowned X account (formerly Twitter) has broken this news.

Prithvi Shaw off to slow start in Ranji Trophy 2024/25

Talking about his performances, Prithvi Shaw has not had a great start to the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy season. He has 59 runs at an average of 19.66 in four starts, including his best of 39*.

Following his dismissal from the Mumbai side, Prithvi took to his Instagram account to post a cryptic tweet, writing, “I need a break, thanks.” His cryptic post suggests there is much more behind his exclusion, and perhaps reports of his dismissal for disciplinary reasons may have some truth.

Earlier, he had missed Mumbai’s conditioning camp in Bengaluru in July. Shaw also did not play in the Buchi Babu Tournament in Chennai.

To replace Prithvi, Mumbai brought in Akhil Herwadkar as an opener. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav, who has been trying to regain his place in the Test side, withdrew his name from the upcoming game due to personal reasons.
